West Nautical continue their sponsorship of South Shields Westoe Rugby Club

Back to news

Having sponsored the club during the 2015 season, West Nautical are delighted to continue their role sponsoring the club’s Development Team.

‘Westoe’, founded in 1875, changed 140 years of tradition in the 2015/16 season by changing their name from Westoe Rugby Club, by adding in the location of their club, South Shields which is a coastal town in the North East of England. South Shields, on the banks of the River Tyne, has a rich history and strong connection with the maritime and shipbuilding industries, where it is home to South Shields Marine School, a world renowned maritime training centre established in 1861, where many yacht officers and crew have studied for a range of short courses, high level training or apprenticeships, including several of West Nautical employees and yacht crew.

West Nautical visited the club for the final match of the 2015/16 season, where they invited the families of their UK employees to partake in a pre-match dinner and watch a side triumph over their local rivals, and we are looking forward to visiting the club again to support the team and possibly even gracing the pitch in a West Nautical shirt!!

Westoe made me feel at home when I moved to the area at 18 and started my career at sea. The club has had its ups and downs, but it has played a major part of my history, and we’re delighted that West Nautical can now play a part of its future” Geoff Moore, Managing Director, West Nautical
