West Nautical provide clients with a comprehensive and tailormade new build yacht project management service.
We represent your interests, focusing on expert advice, technical competence and fiscal responsibility, delivering your new build on time and on budget.
The commissioning of a new yacht is truly special. The possibilities are almost limitless. West Nautical has the experience to guide you through every step of what is naturally an involved and exciting process. As with any bespoke item, communication is crucial to the finished article being what is desired.
We have overseen many launches, working closely with the very best designers and builders to manage construction. We deliver on time and on budget working with the world’s most iconic shipyards, both in Northern and Southern Europe, including Mulder, Benetti, Amels, Mondomarine, Sanlorenzo and Sunseeker.
One of the greatest pleasures of commissioning a new yacht is seeing the vessel constructed. From the keel up, we will ensure you are at the centre of the project, and as actively involved in the process as you wish to be.
Shipyards and Owners Representation
Whilst the vast majority of shipyards deliver successful projects, they are never perfect and will have some issues that can be minimised and eradicated with correct Owners project management. These issues may include metal corrosion, paintwork failures, poor operational designs as well as unreliable subcontractors such as the essential electrical and hydraulic suppliers.
West Nautical does not want the clients’ yacht to be an experiment or a trial. We want the delivered yacht to be faultless in every way, on time and on budget. Our Technical Department can project manage the build from the design stage, through construction to delivery and warranty.
The West Nautical project management team can take charge of all aspects of the build, along with the build crew if engaged, with the below selection being a few of those areas being covered:
- Liaison with Owner and their team, representing them at all stages;
- Engaging an independent and external paint surveyor, ensuring they review the yard’s specification and attend for the application of fairing, paint shoots and acceptance meetings;
- Reviewing the technical details, engineering specifications, drawings and plans to ensure compliance with regulation and practicality;
- Appraising all variation orders and change requests from the yard to ensure that all clients expectations are met completely.
Contract and specification review
From the first stages of the design, specification and shipyard proposal, the West Nautical team is on hand to guide and assist you at this exciting and vital time.
Before contract signing, we will develop a realistic critical path analysis and timeline, defining each party’s responsibilities for the build costs and schedule.
We work with the build team to ensure your interests are best served throughout the project, holding regular progress reviews and providing you with monthly detailed reports.
Launch, sea trials, delivery and set up
Even after launch, there are many considerations, from crew recruitment and writing of operating systems to organising sea trials and final fit-out. The West Nautical team continues to manage your interests from the very start of the project until long after delivery.
